On 15 August, Charyn Canyon (Almaty, Kazakhstan) hosts the second edition of ŞUAQ, an independent festival exploring the connection between electronic music, nature and the cultural heritage of Central Asia. The programme is built around the place itself: by day, guests discover the canyon through an ambient set and public activities; after dark, the landscape becomes the stage.
This year's centrepiece is the Xternal Domain Showcase — the festival's first international curated programme. Kenyan producer Slikback arrives with artists from his independent label to perform alongside musicians from Central Asia. Instead of a standard run of sets, ŞUAQ presents b2b collaborations, live performances, vocal projects and live instruments created for this night only, together with large-scale mapping projected onto the canyon walls.
